Fuel Price: FG orders invocation of “no work no pay” on workers that go on strike

The Federal Government has directed the invocation of statutory provision of “no work no pay” on any worker who joined the strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the new fuel price regime. The directive was contained in a statement issued Tuesday night, signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal. The SGF ordered Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Government Agencies to enforce the directive and open attendance registers in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies. He said the order was sequel to the notice issued by the NLC for workers to embark on an indefinite strike from Wednesday in defiant of an order of National Industrial Court. “This notice is regrettably given in spite of an order by the Industrial Court against the strike. “All workers, whether in public or private sector, are reminded of the Trade Dispute Act, 2004 which provides: “‘Where any worker takes part in a strike, he shall not...

Why I embarked on a one-man rally – Bishop Adeoye

Bishop Seun Adeoye of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Okinni, Osun State has explained why he embarked on one man rally against the present hike of fuel price from N86 to N145 by the federal government. Speaking in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, Rt. Rev Adeoye stated that he took the step because he was of the opinion that the Muhammed Buhari’s administration has not been fair to downtrodden Nigerians by the increase in the price of PMS. “Nigerians are passing through hell now. But this father is wielding a big stick against the people. “This increase in pump price of PMS is uncalled for. In the last one year, Nigerians have seen increase in virtually everything apart from their earnings. We have seen increase in electricity tariff, increase in bank charges and astronomical increase in food items. “Churches in Nigeria today are becoming centres for distr...

Ruling on an exparte application filed by Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Adejumo ordered parties to maintain the status quo until the hearing and determination of the exparte motion. He also directed the government to dialogue with the NLC towards an amicable resolution of their dispute. The case was adjourned to May 24. Last week, labour asked the federal government to reverse the price of petrol within three days or face an indefinite industrial action. At the end of a joint meeting between the Nigeir Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Saturday, the unions advised Nigerians to stockpile food and staples to prepare for a showdown with the government.   On Monday, a government delegation met with labour leaders to prevent the strike from...
